Build the days around what matters
Rolling open grassland in south-west Kenya, continuous with Tanzania's Serengeti. Dawn and late-afternoon game drives look for lion, cheetah, elephant and rhino, and between roughly July and October wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River here. Balloon flights and Maasai village visits are the usual additions.
A park of dry lake bed, spring-fed swamp and acacia south of Nairobi on the Tanzanian border. It is known for large elephant herds feeding in the marshes and for clear-morning views of Kilimanjaro rising behind them. Observation Hill gives a wide outlook over the whole basin.
A shallow alkaline lake on the floor of the Rift Valley, enclosed by a fenced national park. Water levels have risen in recent years and flamingo numbers vary greatly, but the park reliably holds rhino, buffalo, waterbuck and tree-climbing lions, with Baboon Cliff a favoured viewpoint above the water.
An unfenced savannah park on the southern edge of Nairobi, where the city skyline stands behind grazing giraffe and rhino. It holds lion, buffalo and large numbers of plains game, and works well as a first or last morning of a safari when time is short.
A long stretch of white sand on the south coast below Mombasa, backed by palms and fringed by a coral reef that keeps water inside the lagoon calm. Visitors swim, snorkel and kitesurf, and boats run out to Wasini Island and the Kisite marine park for dolphins.
An elephant orphanage on the edge of Nairobi National Park that hand-rears calves orphaned by poaching and drought before returning them to the wild in Tsavo. Visitors watch a daily feeding and mud bath from the enclosure fence while keepers explain each animal's history.
The escarpment and lake basin reveal the large geological landscape that shapes central Kenya. Travellers stop for elevated views and use the corridor to sequence reserves; the experience is normally combined with a road sector.
Kenya's coast adds beaches, coral-water activities and Swahili cultural context to a safari itinerary. Visitors use it as a slower final base after early starts and long drives inland.

Getting there from India
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi is the usual gateway. Indian itineraries may be direct from selected metros or connect through another hub.
There is no practical passenger rail route from India. Kenya's modern intercity rail is useful only after arrival on selected domestic sectors.
International overland arrival from India is not practical. Safari circuits use road transfers, domestic flights or both, with long driving days between reserves.
Know before you go
The Kenyan shilling is the local currency. Cards work in Nairobi and larger lodges, while cash and mobile payments dominate in smaller towns.
Swahili and English are both official languages. English is used in lodges, guiding and signage, so communication is comfortable for Indian travellers.
Kenya is 2 hours 30 minutes behind Indian Standard Time (IST).
A pleasant highland climate around Nairobi and the reserves, with warm coastal humidity at Mombasa. Long rains fall around March to May and shorter rains in November.
Local SIMs are inexpensive and easy to buy on arrival, and eSIMs are supported. Signal can drop inside conservancies, where lodge Wi-Fi fills the gap.
Kenyan staples include nyama choma, ugali, sukuma wiki, chapatis and samosas. Indian restaurants are common in Nairobi and Mombasa, vegetarians can rely on githeri, beans and coastal coconut dishes, and halal food is easy along the coast. Greetings matter, and permission is essential before photographing people or homesteads.
Entry requirements
Ordinary Indian passport holders should obtain an approved Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation before starting the journey unless a current exemption applies. Use the official portal and carry the supporting itinerary and accommodation documents requested.
